No matter what the wheather says: In december it is time for Germans to have their weekly dose of Glühwein! A German speciality made of hot redwine, cloves, lemon and more. You can either buy it at the various christmas markets, ready made in the supermarket OR MAKE IT at home and invite your friends over for a glas or three!
While living in Australia we also needed our decemberly dose of Glühwein and so had to make it at home… After two sips all of our Australian friends were wondering, if there was still some beer left in the fridge… We couldn’t understand this reaction. We just LOOOOVE OUR GLÜHWEIN! But we still prefer the red version from the white one.
So here I will let you know the secret ingredients of our homemade Glühwein:
Take a nice bottle of dry but fruity Pinot Noir. Additionally you will need:
- approx. 10 cloves
- 1-2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 star anise
- some sugar (some like some more)
- 2 slices of orange
- 2 slices of lemon
- some orange juice
Now put it in the pot and heat it up – but beware from boiling!!!!! Then filter all the stuff out and fill the liquid in a nice winterly cup… ENJOY!!! And do not burn your tongue;)
